Terms of Use

These terms cover what you can expect from this site and what we ask of you in return. We have kept them as short and as readable as we can.

The short version

  • Read the site, share it, quote it with credit. That is what it is for.
  • Our research and our tools are information, not professional advice. The tools produce estimates, and estimates can be wrong.
  • Anything you send us through a form is not confidential, and we may use it in our work.
  • Donations are voluntary and, as a rule, final.
  • We do not promise the site will be perfect, always available, or free of mistakes, and our liability is limited.

The summary is here for convenience. The sections below are the terms that actually apply.

This site, nakadafoundation.org, is published by the Nakada Foundation to Save Humanity ("the Foundation," "we," "us"). By visiting the site, using our tools, subscribing to updates, or contacting us through a form, you agree to these terms.

If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and forms part of this agreement.

The Foundation publishes research, analysis, and advocacy about risks from advanced artificial intelligence, and argues for policy that reduces those risks. Everything here — essays, explainers, the glossary, the resource library, the calculators and trackers — exists to inform the public debate.

We are not a government body, a regulator, a law firm, an investment adviser, or a medical provider, and nothing on the site should be read as if we were.

Our writing is general information. It is not legal, financial, investment, tax, medical, employment, or career advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional who knows your circumstances.

We write about a fast-moving field. Numbers, forecasts, model capabilities, company practices, and the status of legislation all change, sometimes within weeks of publication. A page that was accurate when we wrote it may be out of date when you read it. Where a claim matters to a decision you are about to make, follow our citations to the primary source and check it yourself.

The site hosts calculators, trackers, quizzes, and scorecards. They are educational instruments built on published data, stated assumptions, and — in several cases — expert opinion that is genuinely contested.

  • They produce estimates, not predictions. A probability we display is the output of a model, not a statement about what will happen.
  • The inputs carry real uncertainty. Forecast trackers, compute figures, and safety scorecards summarize sources that disagree with one another. Reasonable experts read the same evidence and land in different places.
  • Scores are not verdicts about organizations or people. A rating reflects the public evidence we could find against the criteria we published, and nothing more.
  • Results about your own situation are illustrative. A tool that comments on the exposure of an occupation is describing a category, not you.

Do not rely on any tool output as the sole basis for a decision with financial, professional, legal, or health consequences.

You may read, print, and share this site freely. You agree not to:

  • break the site or try to — probing for vulnerabilities, overwhelming our servers, bypassing rate limits, or interfering with anyone else's access;
  • scrape at a volume that degrades service for other visitors, or ignore the instructions in our robots file;
  • submit forms in bulk, send automated or fraudulent messages, or impersonate another person;
  • upload anything malicious, unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or infringing;
  • republish our material in a way that misstates our position, or present altered text or figures as ours;
  • use the site in a manner that suggests the Foundation endorses a product, a candidate, or an organization when we have not said so.

Good-faith security research is welcome. If you find a vulnerability, tell us through the contact page before disclosing it publicly, and give us a reasonable window to fix it.

When you use a form on this site — contact, volunteer, press, or the update list — you are sending us information voluntarily.

  • Treat it as non-confidential. Unless we have agreed otherwise in writing, we do not accept a duty of confidence over unsolicited messages, and no non-disclosure obligation arises simply because you label a message private.
  • Do not send sensitive material. Please keep passwords, financial account details, government identifiers, health information, and classified or export-controlled material out of our forms.
  • You give us permission to use it. By sending an idea, comment, correction, or piece of research, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free right to use it in our work, including in published material, without payment. We will not attach your name to a public quotation unless you have agreed to it.
  • You confirm it is yours to send. You are responsible for making sure your submission does not infringe anyone's rights or breach an obligation you owe to an employer or third party.

How we store and retain form submissions is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Donations to the Foundation are voluntary gifts that support our research and advocacy. Making one does not buy influence over our conclusions, a right to direct our work, membership, or any good or service in return.

  • Payment handling. Donations are processed by a third-party payment provider. We never see or store your full card number; that data stays with the processor, under its own terms and privacy policy.
  • Recurring gifts. If you set up a recurring donation, it continues until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time by contacting us or through the processor's receipt.
  • Refunds. Gifts are generally final. If you gave in error, gave twice, or believe a charge is unauthorized, contact us within 30 days and we will look into it in good faith.
  • Tax. We do not give tax advice. Whether a gift is deductible depends on our organizational status and on your own circumstances, so please confirm with your tax adviser rather than relying on anything written here.
  • Sanctions and source of funds. We may decline or return a donation at our discretion, including where accepting it would conflict with applicable law or with our mission.

Unless a page says otherwise, the text, design, code, charts, and images on this site belong to the Foundation or are used with permission. We would rather this material circulate than sit behind a wall, so:

  • Quoting is welcome. You may quote a reasonable extract — a few paragraphs — for reporting, commentary, teaching, research, or criticism, with clear credit to the Nakada Foundation to Save Humanity and a link to the page.
  • Charts and figures may be reproduced with the same credit and link, unaltered, including any source note printed on them.
  • Full republication, translation, or commercial use needs our written permission first. Ask through the contact page; we usually say yes.
  • Training and automated ingestion. Reproducing this site wholesale into a commercial dataset or model corpus is not covered by the permissions above.

Third-party material we quote, embed, or link to remains the property of its owner and is used under fair use or the owner's license. If you believe something here infringes your copyright, write to us with enough detail to identify the work and the page, and we will review it promptly.

"Nakada Foundation to Save Humanity," our logo, and our visual identity are ours. You may use the name to refer to us factually — in an article, a citation, or a list of sources. You may not use the name or logo in a way that implies partnership, sponsorship, or endorsement without our written agreement. Journalists can find approved assets on the press page.

We cite heavily and link outward often. A link is not an endorsement of the site, the organization, or everything else it publishes. We do not control third-party sites, cannot vouch for their content or their handling of your data, and are not responsible for either. Once you leave nakadafoundation.org, the other site's terms and privacy policy govern.

We publish this site on a best-effort basis. We may change, move, correct, archive, or remove any page, tool, or feature at any time, and we may suspend the site for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

When we correct a substantive error in a published piece, we say so on the page rather than editing silently.

The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and completeness.

We do not warrant that the site will be error-free or secure, that defects will be corrected, or that the information, forecasts, scores, or estimates published here are accurate, current, or suitable for any purpose you have in mind.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Foundation and its trustees, officers, staff, volunteers, and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of your use of — or inability to use — this site, its tools, or anything you relied on here, whether the claim is in contract, tort, or any other theory, and even if we were told such damages were possible.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for all claims relating to the site is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (USD 100).

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the Foundation is organized, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of that state have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site, and you consent to that jurisdiction and venue.

Before filing anything, please write to us. Nearly every complaint we have received has been resolved by email in a few days.

If a provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

We may update these terms as the site grows or the law changes. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be flagged on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
